This was one of the first few songs I had heard from Lana and it was one of the ones that had me hooked (aside from Young and Beautiful and Put Me In A Movie). This is more brief and less descriptive compared to my usual writing but hey ho, I have to keep it short. I love all the songs wholeheartedly and it’s so difficult to put into a list but I thought I’d give it a go anyway.
Lana has an extensive collection of unreleased songs, and these are my personal, in my own opinion, top 10 favourites. Resistance - Nineties/noughties beach vibe in short skirts and rolled up sleeves like after school, rolling waves and vanilla ice cream freezing your tongue, tussling in the sand and watching the sun sink lower, dyeing the water orange speckled with flecks of white, listening to old pop and rock on a battered stereo and necking. Playing Dangerous - Smoke billowing from a charred house but the silk nightgown is spotless, shifting in the breeze, the sky completely black but the light of a lamppost burning yellow over you like a spotlight, long nails playing with the hem, making out in the back of a shadowed police car the the silk bunched up at the waist. Jealous Girl - Cheerleaders, naturally, with short skirts, long hair and red lips, blowing bubblegum on the bleachers and giggling too sharply for it to be fun, smoking in the shower rooms and making out with the boys in the bathrooms, secretly at war with every other girl in the school. Kinda Outta Luck - A sixties vibe with bright white go go boots and short, psychedelic dresses, hair up high and eyelashes huge, everyone dancing in a bar with their arms in the air and girls strutting on stage, their tanned legs washed of the brown from the bright lights, pink and yellow drinks sipped, a gun in your bag. Marilyn Monroe - Sitting on the sand with the one you love, curled up together on the towel with hair piled up messy yet glamourously, red nails glinting in the sun, feeding one another food like sugary sweet cakes and running through the sand, practically tripping but grasping each other’s hands, white teeth glinting and the crystal waters waving.
Motel 6 - A crazy party, wearing leather jackets and flouncy dresses, streamers crushed under shoes as everyone dances together, the air thick and heavy but the air outside is cold and biting as people blow smoke to the stars, jumping on the sofas and the other furniture, chandeliers shaking.
Your Band Is All The Rage - Staring out the window with your head on the glass, tucked up on the windowsill, tears rolling down your cheeks and his things packed in bags on the edge of the room to give back to him, including his musical instruments and the clothes you slept with so you could imagine he was beside you.
